Perikatan man's remarks on unity govt an insult to royal institution, says Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Azman Nasrudin’s recent remarks about the newly-formed unity government are an insult to the royal institution, says Pakatan Harapan communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

Azman, Perikatan Nasional’s candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat, was reported to have claimed that the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was a "kerajaan zina (adulterous government)" while on the campaign trail on Sunday (Nov 27).

Fahmi said, in a post on social media application TikTok on Tuesday (Nov 29), that Azman's remarks not only slandered the parties in the new government but also the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and other Malay Rulers who had consented to its formation.

“His statements are extremely rude and show a complete lack of respect for the constitutional right of the King to appoint a person deemed worthy to be prime minister.

“His remarks are also an insult to the Sultan of Kedah, who was present with the other Malay Rulers to discuss the appointment of the 10th Prime Minister on Nov 24,” Fahmi said, adding that Azman should be investigated.

Azman’s rivals for the Padang Serai seat, Pakatan Harapan’s Dr Mohamad Sofee Razak and Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Sivaraajh Chandran, have also criticised Azman for his comments and said he should apologise to the Sultan of Kedah.

The Padang Serai election will be on Dec 7, with early voting on Dec 3.

It was postponed after the sudden passing of Pakatan candidate M. Karupaiya on Nov 16, three days before GE15.
